Potential impact on human health and the environment

Solar powered vehicles have essentially zero impact on the environment because they generate zero pollution, and obtain all of their energy from the sun. As a transportation alternative, however, they are not yet practical for day-to-day use. The value is primarily in the solar panel and battery technology derived from prototype development and application to other vehicle technologies. This technology can be put to use in the development of hybrid electric vehicles of the future, for example.
